No no, i ordered a bottle of beer not sour grapes!

Well no one can say it wasn’t hard fought or that we were lucky to come away with the win but after  years of disappointment in Croke Park on big match day we’ll take the victory…and gladly take it at that!!

One thing that I did hear and that did disappoint me was in relation to the Cork team and more specifically the treatment of the Cork team after the match in Croke Park. A number of Cork players, about an hour after the match, found themselves in a reception area within Croke Park where a Dublin GAA organised hospitality event was still in full swing. What happened next beggars belief.

A number of the players, and backroom team, upon asking for a few longneck bottles of beer were refused point blank by the bar staff.  The reason they were given was that this was a private event and that the complimentary bar was for paid up guests only. Apparently the event organiser when he came on the scene also stuck to this line and the Cork boys were turned away!! Eventually after some of the”paid up” guests intervened and made enough noise the players were brought back in and they had their one bottle each and quickly left.

Now what irks me so much is that these guys who had just entertained 80,000 plus people at the match and countless TV viewers at home were never going to drink 17 bottles each and were willing to pay had there been cash tills present but there wasn’t! So instead of welcoming the guys and being delighted that they had graced the event at all the organisers refused to go off script for even one second and one has to wonder if the reason for this was more to do with the sour grapes of losing than the monitory reasons they were so feebly pedalling.
